Como a opinião pessoal de Tolkien sobre a evolução afetou seu trabalho?

Que Tolkien era criacionista (de algum tipo) é indiscutível; considere a carta 96, por exemplo:

Isso, no entanto, não significa necessariamente que ele fosse contra a evolução biológica, desde que o ato de criação ainda fosse divino; isso é essencialmente o que Evolução Teística é. Como nossos bons amigos no Christianity.SE nos dizem, há não necessariamente uma contradição com ser católico e aceitar a evolução ; citando uma resposta a essa pergunta (citando, por sua vez, uma declaração do Papa Pio XII:

[The] Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.

Embora isso tenha sido publicado em 1950, enquanto Tolkien estava em fase de conclusão em O Senhor dos Anéis, parece improvável que essa fosse uma visão radical da época.

A declaração do papa Pio é bastante semelhante à teologia da Terra-média, onde crescimento e mudança (e subcriação de seres menores que Ilúvatar) são possíveis, mas a "alma" ainda vem de Deus.

Os livros foram escritos como mitologia cristã, criação etc. Mas:

Tolkien once described The Lord of the Rings to his friend, the English Jesuit Father Robert Murray, as "a fundamentally religious and Catholic work, unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision."^source

Lewis and evolution (www.creation.com) Peter Barnes writes, "Theologically, Lewis described himself as an Anglican...He is often regarded as suspect in his views, especially regarding the doctrines of revelation and the atonement. Certainly, Lewis retained some liberal elements in his thinking..." In other words, by thinking for himself, he was a heretic. He was converted to Christianity by J.R.R. Tolkien of Lord of the Rings fame.^source

A teoria da sub-criação de Tolkien

The doctrine of sub-creation was especially congenial to Tolkien, both as a Christian and as a fantasy writer. As a Christian, Tolkien could view sub-creation as a form of worship, a way for creatures to express the divine image in them by becoming creators. As a fantasy writer, Tolkien could affirm his chosen genre as one of the purest of all fictional modes, because it called for the creation not only of characters and incidents, but also of worlds for them to exist in.

    

Tanto quanto eu estou ciente de ler uma biografia sobre Tolkien, ele era um católico devoto depois de seu pai. O livro que li nunca falou sobre suas crenças pessoais em relação a esse tipo de coisa, no entanto, em geral (especialmente na época de Tolkien), a igreja católica acredita estritamente na criação da gênese.

Existem algumas semelhanças entre a criação bíblica e como Eru Ilúvatar criou os Ainur e eles, por sua vez, criaram Arda (da qual a Terra-média faz parte). Leia o Silmarillion para mais detalhes, eu não sei tudo isso em cima da minha cabeça:)
