Por que Snape não sabia que Voldemort tinha Horcruxes?

Snape é repetidamente referido como um mago altamente inteligente, mais habilidoso nas Artes das Trevas. Não sabemos ao certo, mas parece provável que ele soubesse sobre as Horcruxes, pelo menos em teoria.

Ele basicamente possui todos os mesmos fatos sobre a conexão de Harry-Voldemort como Dumbledore (que Harry pode falar Parseltongue, que sua mente está conectada a Voldemort etc.), e sobre o diário de Riddle: Dumbledore não é reservado sobre sua origem no final de Harry Potter e a Câmara Secreta mesmo com os Weasleys. Enquanto para Harry preservar um pedaço da alma de alguém em um diário parece um ato aleatório de magia, Snape iria reconhecê-lo como um caso muito peculiar, assim como Dumbledore fez. Snape certamente não sabia sobre a memória de Slughorn, mas ele sabia sobre as ambições de Voldemort em geral, como Voldemort afirmou no final de Harry Potter e o Cálice de Fogo :

"And then I ask myself, but how could they have believed I would not rise again? They, who knew the steps I took, long ago, to guard myself against mortal death?"

(O que para mim parece que os Comensais da Morte podem saber sobre Horcruxes, mas como Dumbledore continua nos dizendo que não, vamos acreditar nele). Ainda assim, isso implica que Snape conhecia o objetivo final do Lorde das Trevas - a imortalidade.

Parece fora do personagem para Snape não usar seus cérebros, colocar dois e dois juntos e obter as mesmas conclusões que Dumbledore veio. Ora, eu estou até surpreso que o próprio Dumbledore não esperava que Snape percebesse a verdade.

Aqui vemos Snape acha que Voldemort se foi para sempre, então ele não sabe sobre Horcruxes.

“Did you think that breaking the ring would break the curse?” “Something like that…I was delirious, no doubt…” said Dumbledore.

Aqui vemos Dumbledore esconde a verdadeira razão pela qual ele quebrou a pedra. Ele não quer que Snape saiba que é um Horcruxe.

“What are you doing with Potter, all these evenings you are closeted together?” Snape asked abruptly.

Part of Lord Voldemort lives inside Harry, and it is that which gives him the power of speech with snakes, and a connection with Lord Voldemort’s mind that he has never understood. And while that fragment of soul, unmissed by Voldemort, remains attached to and protected by Harry, Lord Voldemort cannot die.”

“So the boy…the boy must die?”

Nada sobre Harry ser uma Horcrux, ou Nagini ser uma Horcrux ou Voldemort ter Horcruxes. Snape não sabia e Dumbledore tentou expressar tudo da maneira que não especificaria o tipo de magia.

Horcruxes eram um tema bastante obscuro, mesmo entre os bruxos das Trevas.

Embora Snape tivesse interesse nas Artes das Trevas, Horcruxes não são um tema comum nas Artes das Trevas. Quando Hermione procura os livros na seção restrita, nenhum deles dá detalhes sobre Horcruxes, e apenas um deles mencionou as Horcruxes.

“I haven’t found one single explanation of what Horcruxes do!’ she told him. ‘Not a single one! I’ve been right through the restricted section and even in the most horrible books, where they tell you how to brew the most gruesome potions – nothing! All I could find was this, in the introduction to Magick Moste Evile – listen – “of the Horcrux, wickedest of magical inventions, we shall not speak nor give direction” … I mean, why mention it, then?’ she said impatiently, slamming the old book shut; it let out a ghostly wail. ‘Oh, shut up,’ she snapped, stuffing it back into her bag.”
