Mais adiante, o Procon Dukat aparece em vários romances da UE, incluindo A Stitch in Time . Aprendemos que ele estava envolvido em uma "irmandade" clandestina de cardassianos conservadores linha-dura, comprometidos em devolver Cardassia Prime às suas antigas glórias atacando sistematicamente as outras superpotências do Quadrante Alfa e dominando e escravizando civilizações menos desenvolvidas dentro de sua esfera de influência. Enabran Tain, como parte da facção supostamente liberal, era um daqueles considerados pela Irmandade por ser muito fraco e estava programado para ser substituído. Tain chegou lá primeiro e teve seu protegido, Elim Garak, pai da droga Dukat (o avô de Ziyal) e interrogá-lo. Ele desistiu da existência da Irmandade, mas nenhum dos seus nomes e foi interrogado até a morte pouco depois.

Lang . . . the guls who stand with them . . . especially the traitors!” Dukat was energized and tried to rise as if he were exhorting his troops. The frustration of not being able to poured into his words. “The Brotherhood has to move now! The families must take their rightful place. Support the Directorate or die. And no exile! Exile is just deferred treachery. Those who were meant to rule must rule. End these negotiations with the Federation. Use the Romulans to drive the wedge! What did they say?” he suddenly asked me. “Will they move with us against the Klingons?”
