No terceiro livro da série original da Fundação, Second Foundation , Arcadia Darrell tenta escapar de Kalgan e chegar a Trantor. No espaçoporto, ela é confrontada pelo tenente da polícia Orum Dirige, que foi ordenada a procurar por ela. Depois de ver seus papéis, porém, e percebendo que ela é Arcadia, Dirige a deixa ir de qualquer maneira.

Imediatamente depois, quando Arcadia pergunta ao Sr. Palver por que ela foi solta, ele responde:

"Well, Arcadia, child, it was easy. When you've been dealing with agents and buyers and competing co-operatives, you learn some of the tricks. I've had twenty years or more to learn them in. É ainda mais simples - a Segunda Fundação precisava que o Dirige tivesse um patamar de adulteração, colocado em Kalgan, e mostrasse aos conspiradores que eles eram reais e ativos na guerra de Kalgan. Arkady e seu pai poderiam então descobrir o grupo sacrifical de 50 homens e matá-los, removendo assim o elemento instável de conhecimento da Segunda Fundação de interromper o Plano de Seldon.

Assim, mesmo que Dirige os deixasse ir, Palver o teria ajustado para fazer a mesma coisa apenas para colocar um patamar de adulteração para eles encontrarem. Arkady iria atribuí-lo à Senhora do Senhor da Guerra.

Mr. Palver is the First Speaker of the Second Foundation, and he manipulated the mind of Police Lieutenant Orum Dirige because he wanted Arcadia to escape. He doesn't reveal it to Arcadia because she is a member of the First Foundation, and as a member of the Second one, he doesn't want her to know about the its existence.

Tanto a Fundação quanto a Segunda Fundação querem que a busca da Arcadia tenha sucesso, embora por razões muito diferentes! Então, de qualquer forma, Dirige teria deixado Arcadia ir embora. No entanto:

We find out in the next few pages that Dirige had been influenced by the Second Foundation. His brainwaves have the tamper plateau.

Nada mais é dito sobre o Dirige, então não há como saber com certeza se a decisão do Dirige foi controlada pela Segunda Fundação. Por um lado, não parece provável que a Segunda Fundação teria deixado qualquer coisa ao acaso, mas por outro lado:
