A série Game of thrones é inspirada na série dos reis amaldiçoados?

Acabei de assistir a 3ª temporada do GoT recentemente. A série é realmente ótima. Mas de repente me lembrei de ler há muito tempo uma série de livros chamados The Accursed Kings por Maurice Druon. E vejo muitos paralelos.

Agora, The Accursed Kings nos conta uma história sobre o reino francês no século XIV, e a batalha pelo trono entre vários ramos da dinastia governante. O princípio "Everybody Dies", pelo qual GoT é famoso, se encaixa perfeitamente com o AkK:

The Iron King, the main hero of the first book, dies at the end of the first book.

Além disso, há uma linha de adultério

The wives of two king sons cheat on their husbands, which lead to the fight for who should actually claim the the throne after Iron King is gone.

Also, the english queen cheats on her husband and takes part in murder of Edward the II.

A principal diferença é, como eu vejo, a presença de fantasia no GoT. Mas, sem isso, as duas séries têm um estilo muito próximo.

Então, por que isso? George Martin foi oficialmente inspirado pelos livros de Druon, ou foi apenas porque ambos se inspiraram na história medieval?
