A inscrição “Um Anel” foi um efeito colateral ou um recurso?

As marcações foram feitas intencionalmente. Do conselho de Elrond, Gandalf conta sua viagem a Saruman e Gondor. Gandalf descreve o que aprendeu com Saruman:

"The Nine, the Seven, and the Three," he said, "had each their proper gem. Not so the One. It was round and unadorned, as it were one of the lesser rings; but its maker set marks upon it that the skilled, maybe, could still see and read."

Isildur escreveu isso sobre o Anel.

It was hot when I first took it, hot as a glede, and my hand was scorched, so that I doubt if ever again I shall be free of the pain of it. Yet even as I write it is cooled, and it seemeth to shrink, though it loseth neither its beauty nor its shape. Already the writing upon it, which at first was as clear as red flame, fadeth and is now only barely to be read ...

The Ring misseth, maybe, the heat of Sauron's hand, which was black and yet burned like fire, and so Gil-galad was destroyed; and maybe were the gold made hot again, the writing would be refreshed.

Isso parece provar que Sauron intencionalmente fez o Anel com a inscrição, porque o calor de sua mão tornou a inscrição fácil de ver e óbvia para todos. A primeira citação diz que "o fabricante estabeleceu marcas nela", então para mim isso prova que Sauron intencionalmente os colocou lá.

Para nitpick, apenas a terceira e a última última linha foram inscritas no Ring:

One Ring to rule them all,

One Ring to find them

One Ring to bring them all

And in the darkness bind them

Estas palavras foram definitivamente ditas por Sauron como parte do forjamento do Anel, como Gandalf menciona em Rivendell:

Out of the Black Years came the words that the Smiths of Eregion heard, and knew that they had been betrayed.

No entanto, se Sauron deliberadamente inscreveu essas palavras ou elas apareceram como um efeito colateral do feitiço, uma vez que elas obviamente desempenharam um papel nisso, já que foram faladas como parte do forjamento, são desconhecidas. Apenas Sauron seria capaz de responder isso no mundo.

Fora do personagem, obviamente Tolkien teria sido capaz de responder, mas ele nunca pareceu abordar isso através de seus escritos.

Se a inscrição em si tem a capacidade de poderes (mágico, mal, cura, controle, etc.), então é um recurso do anel.

Se a inscrição é meramente decorativa e serve para fazer uma declaração geral sobre o anel, então é meramente um aspecto de artefato do anel. Seria como a inscrição dentro de uma aliança: Schmoe e Eunice Brown - 12 de abril de 1990 - Casada neste dia . Isso é meramente informativo e basicamente não é útil.
