In As Duas Torrescapítulo Covil de ShelobTolkien escreve que Gollum "se curvou e adorou" Shelob. Aparentemente, isso aconteceu antes de ele ser capturado e levado para Barad-Dur. Não consigo pensar em outro lugar LotR onde um personagem adora outro, e Gollum não parece o tipo de adoração. Entendo que Gollum prometeu trazer comida para Sua Senhoria, mas o que você acha disso sobre "adoração"?

É mencionado na minha primeira citação que "a escuridão de sua maldade percorreu todos os caminhos de seu cansaço ao lado dele, afastando-o da luz e do arrependimento", sugerindo que sua vontade maligna era grande o suficiente para ser percebida por Gollum, tendo uma personalidade maligna graças à influência do Anel.
Tampouco Gollum esperava encontrar uma enorme aranha do mal a caminho de Mordor, e provavelmente ficou intimidado o suficiente para adorá-la e impedir sua própria morte. Embora, curiosamente, Shagrat observe que "ele não é bom para comer", que levanta a questão de saber se Shelob o teria comido ou não.
Eu diria que a razão pela qual Gollum adorou Shelob foi porque sua aparente maldade o impressionou e o intimidou, além de ele não ter escolha se queria sair vivo de seu covil.1
O Quão confiável é a Olymp Trade? Pensamentos Finais é muito mais difícil de responder; não temos ideia de como Gollum se comunicou com Shelob. Gollum poderia ter usado gestos com as mãos, ou uma simples postura de mendigo pode ter sido suficiente para convencer Shelob. Não sabemos se Shelob pode falar Westron, ou qualquer outro idioma, mas sua mãe Ungoliant conseguiu se comunicar com Morgoth:
'Not so much,' said Ungoliant. 'But thou hast a great treasure from Formenos; I will have all that. Yea, with both hands thou shalt give it.'
