Estou tentando encontrar o título e o autor de um romance que li nos EUA no início dos 1980s. Foi um romance bastante longo.
Muitos humanos foram aumentados de várias maneiras, e a sociedade entrou em colapso em uma extensão significativa. Um dos protagonistas tinha esconderijos secretos de lubrificante na coluna por toda a Califórnia rural.
O cara que dirigia Los Angeles chamava-se Doge (como em Veneza). Havia um grupo chamado ANGELS (neurocientistas associados alguma coisa).
