Por que Galadriel diz que é uma traição do One Ring? Não foi Isildur quem deixou cair?
Como um anel pode trair alguém?
Diz-se que o anel tem vontade própria, ou melhor, tem um pouco da vontade de Sauron. O anel intencionalmente escorregou do dedo de Isildur; Isildur não se limitou a perder o controle.
Se bem me lembro, Isildur tentou usar o anel para escapar de um grupo de orcs. Ele colocou, ficou invisível e tentou nadar em um rio. Mas no meio do rio, o anel falhou e escorregou e ele ficou visível, então os orcs atiraram nele e ele morreu. Por isso, o anel o traiu.
E o anel permaneceu no rio até que foi encontrado muitos anos depois e acabou na posse de Gollum (Smeagol).
Galadrial está parafraseando o próprio Tolkien no Silmarillion:
Isildur himself escaped by means of the Ring, for when he wore it he was invisible to all eyes; but the Orcs hunted him by scent and slot, until he came to the River and plunged in. There the Ring betrayed him and avenged its maker, for it slipped from his finger as he swam, and it was lost in the water. Then the Orcs saw him as he laboured in the stream, and they shot him with many arrows, and that was his end.
Isto obviamente atribui a traição e vingança ao Anel.
A passagem que descreve a morte de Isildur nos Contos Inacabados é semelhante:
There suddenly he knew that the Ring had gone. By chance, or chance well used, it had left his hand and gone where he could never hope to find it again.
Mais uma vez, pode ser lido como atribuindo o deslizar do dedo de Isildur para o próprio Anel.
Finalmente, Gandalf definitivamente acredita que o Anel tem essa habilidade, de acordo com a Sociedade do Anel:
"A Ring of Power looks after itself, Frodo. It may slip off treacherously, but its keeper never abandons it. ... It was not Gollum, Frodo, but the Ring itself that decided things. The Ring left him."
A crença do Sábio em O Senhor dos Anéis é obviamente que o Um Anel é senciente o suficiente para escorregar do dedo do seu portador, daí o comentário de Galadrial.
