Por que o Um Anel foi tão fascinante?

O Anel representa a aquisição do Poder. Como diz o ditado,

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

Quando se deparar com a oportunidade de adquirir Power se você apenas colocar o ringue, é difícil recusar.

Note que os menos influenciados são os Hobbits, que são os menos ambiciosos, e Gandalf, que talvez compreenda o que o poder pode fazer, se recusou a tocá-lo.

Um dos temas que atravessam o LOTR é que os homens são particularmente corruptíveis; eles são a razão pela qual o anel não foi destruído quando Sauron foi derrotado pela primeira vez, são os Homens da Montanha Branca que estão corrompidos por Sauron e perdem seu juramento a Isildur; os nove anéis dados aos homens os corromperam para se tornarem os Nazgull, ao passo que até os Anões só se tornaram gananciosos em vez de se submeterem à vontade de Sauron.

Tal como acontece com sci-fi & fantasia em geral, diferentes raças representam diferentes facetas da humanidade. De certa forma, Tolkein está fazendo questão sobre nosso desejo de afetar o mundo e como ele pode nos tornar vulneráveis à corrupção, mesmo com as melhores intenções - bem explicado em esta página .

O anel foi criado por Sauron, de modo que se tornou maligno. Também é dito que faz parte dele.

The Ring of Power was created by Sauron. They are one. Sauron survived because the Ring did.

Porque o anel é mal, ele vai começar a entortar e curvar a mente das pessoas que estão na posse dele, tornando-as cada vez mais más, quanto mais elas o guardam e vestem.

Because the ring was created by Sauron it became evil in itself. The ring caused those who possessed it to become obsessed with it, so much so that they might kill anyone who showed too much interest in it or attempted to touch the Ring. With an evil will of its own, the Ring would make attempts to return to its Master. It could "call out" subliminally to other persons, in an attempt to get them to pick it up or possibly kill the current owner. It was also capable of slipping unnoticed from the owner's finger, leaving him vulnerable to attack or to gain a new owner that would help get the Ring back to Sauron. Frodo Baggins was warned by Bilbo that the Ring tended to "slip away" at odd times, and compensated for this by wearing it on a chain around his neck.

Um dos melhores exemplos foi Smeagol, que após séculos de ter o anel se tornou Gollum.

Around the year TA 2463, Sméagol became the fourth Bearer of the One Ring, after Sauron, Isildur, and Déagol. Déagol was his cousin, and on Sméagol's birthday, they went fishing in the Gladden Fields north of the mountains.

It was there that Déagol found a gold ring, after being pulled into the water by a large fish. Almost immediately, Sméagol fell to the power of the ring and demanded it as a birthday present. When Deágol refused, Sméagol promptly went into a barbaric rage and fought with Deagol over the ring and strangled him to death and took the ring as his own. Sméagol was quickly corrupted further by the ring and banished by his people, turned by his grandmother out of her hole, he was forced to find a home in a cave in the Misty Mountains in around TA 2470. The Ring's malignant influence twisted his Hobbit body, as well as his mind, and prolonged his life far beyond its natural limits. He called it his "Precious" or his "Birthday Present," the latter as a justification for killing Déagol.

O anel corrompeu Smeagol facilmente e o levou a matar seu próprio primo, e há muitos momentos nos livros e filmes que mostram a influência maligna do Anel que tenta os personagens a se matarem apenas para manter o anel por si mesmos.

Essencialmente, o anel não era tão fascinante que era mal e manipulava as pessoas para se tornarem obsessivas com ele a ponto de não poderem se separar dele ...

Além de ser um artefato poderoso que poderia aumentar muito o poder de alguém (por exemplo, Gandalf diz que se ele usar o anel, ele se tornaria um poder terrível demais), que é presumivelmente a primeira razão para o desejo de Boromir exerce uma influência mágica sobre qualquer um que ponha os olhos nele.

Sméagol fica encantado com o anel assim que o encontra, Frodo observa como é muito bonito quando o examina com Gandalf, e é claro, Bilbo, Frodo, Isildur e quase todos os porta-anéis acham muito difícil parte disso. Isso sugere que os anéis consomem aqueles que o contemplam com um desejo antinatural de possuí-lo, de modo que, mesmo que eles conscientemente recusem o poder que ele daria, eles ainda seriam tentados a colocá-lo, como afirma Gandalf várias vezes.

    

O anel era uma espécie de Horcrux (se não a mãe de todos!) se pegarmos o universo de Harry Potter. A razão pela qual o espírito de Sauron sobreviveu sem forma física é devido à sobrevivência do anel Um. Os anéis dados às raças de Homens, Elfos e Anões também eram feitos do mesmo material (Mount Doom magma) para estabelecer uma conexão com todos. Você corrompe o anel mestre (a Mãe), é passado para todos os outros e vice-versa. Ajudou Sauron a reunir as forças de vida e o poder de diversas raças (um plano brilhante, de fato!), Tornando-o o formidável inimigo no leste!
