Que língua é falada pelos parisienses nos vikings?

Michael Hirst, criador e escritor de Vikings, disse isso para Medievalists.net :

And here’s a very important thing: if you include Latin as a dead language, we have FOUR dead languages in the show. We have people speaking Anglo-Saxon, Old Norse, Old French (when they raid Paris, which sounds more like German than French, actually) and Latin, and can you tell me ANY other network show that has people speaking four dead languages in it? No! I mean, they don’t speak it much, but you can tell that is what they are speaking. I wanted people to hear what those languages really sounded like. It’s a very important part of the authenticity of the show.

Eu sei que isso é antigo, mas eu só queria acrescentar à resposta acima, onde diz que o francês soa mais como alemão, eu acredito (apesar das palavras do criador, já que ele poderia ter facilmente misturado isso na fala) eles são falando Old Frankish ao invés de Old French, que na verdade é uma língua germânica, é por isso que soa alemão e faz mais sentido para o período de tempo.

Como francófono, posso captar muitas das palavras que os parisienses falam. Claro, as legendas ajudam, porque o sotaque e a gramática e a morfologia são muito diferentes. Mas, acredita-se, é o ancestral da língua francesa.
