Quando a Primeira Ordem foi estabelecida
Existe alguma informação canônica sobre as datas desses grandes eventos?
Os romances canônicos "Star Wars: Aftermath", "Lost Stars" e "Before the Awakening" preenchem algumas dessas lacunas, além do Dicionário Visual de "The Force Awakens".
Depois disso, é mencionado que um pequeno Senado, com Mon Mothma como Chanceler, é formado e começa a se reunir em torno da 6 meses após a Batalha de Endor. Este novo governo é chamado de Nova República.
Após a Batalha de Jakku (um ano e quatro dias após A Batalha de Endor), o Concordância Galática, é assinado um tratado de paz entre a Nova República e os remanescentes do Império. Este tratado estabelece o território da República e do Império, bem como uma "zona neutra" entre os dois governos. A Primeira Ordem controla principalmente as Regiões Desconhecidas, onde o Imperador já havia enviado batedores e cientistas tentando descobrir a origem do Lado Negro da Força.
Não está claro quando exatamente os remanescentes do Império se denominaram "A Primeira Ordem."
A Resistência é formada como um grupo de guerrilha quando a Primeira Ordem começa atacando postos avançados da República. A República não acredita que a Primeira Ordem seja uma ameaça, então um pequeno grupo é formado para resistir ao que eles acreditam ser um perigo claro e presente. Embora nunca seja afirmado, está fortemente implícito que isso começou logo após o massacre na Academia Jedi de Luke.

Presumivelmente, a Aliança havia deixado de existir como tal pelo menos 20 anos antes, quando o Império foi basicamente exterminado e a Nova República foi capaz de se defender dos remanescentes das forças imperiais.

“PREEEEG-NAAAANT,” Mister Bones echoes, also singing— except his song is a disharmonic glitch ballad. Everyone winces.
“Stop,” Sinjir tells the droid.
“ROGER-ROGER.”
