Why does quarterstaff have two damages?
It has two damages listed because it has the versatile property meaning it does the greyed out damage when held with two hands vs the normal when held with one.
Why is it called a quarterstaff?
The name "quarterstaff" is first attested in the mid-16th century. The "quarter" possibly refers to the means of production, the staff being made from quartersawn hardwood (as opposed to a staff of lower quality made from conventionally sawn lumber or from a tree branch). Can you use a shield with a staff? You can't. Staves are big thick rods, and require both hands to properly operate. You could have fooled me. All those people through the ages wielding Spears and Shields apparently didn't know better...
Can you use a shield and a Glaive?
This bar recharges with every successful hit with the Glaive. Once this bar is full, you will be able to deploy the Glaive Shield. There is also a flip side to this. You will have to keep dealing damage while the shield is up if you want the shield to stay. Is quarterstaff reach 5e? A quarterstaff is simply not long enough for reach. Reach attacks require a weapon that can hit a target effectively 10 feet away. Pikes, mauls, or polearms that are more than 10 feet long, could have reach as they give you at least 2 feet of staff to wield it with, and still hit that target 10 feet away.
Is spear a strength or Dex?
Spears do not have the Finesse property and so Dex is not a valid ability score to use with them, they are Strength weapons. Do ranged weapons use Dex? Yes, a ranged attack with a ranged weapon would include your Dex bonus to both attack and damage rolls. The Player's Handbook mentions this twice. You add your Dexterity modifier to your attack roll and your damage roll when attacking with a ranged weapon, such as a sling or a longbow.
What does versatile mean DND 5e?
Versatile: This weapon can be used with one or two hands. A damage value in parentheses appears with the property-the damage when the weapon is used with two hands to make a melee attack. Is a quarterstaff versatile? The wood of a club or quarterstaff you are holding is imbued with nature's power. Now, the club is fine, it just goes from a 1d4 to a 1d8. However, a quarterstaff does 1d6 and has versatility, letting you wield it two-handed for 1d8.
Can a quarterstaff be an arcane focus?
You can use the same staff as your arcane focus and as a quarter staff.
