A Nova Sombra foi uma continuação planejada do Senhor dos Anéis < que detalhou a Quarta Era e o reinado do filho de Aragorn. Tolkien acabou abandonando, mas ele tinha que dizer sobre isso:

I could have written a 'thriller' about the plot and its discovery and overthrow — but it would have been just that. Not worth doing.
