Por que há tão poucos episódios de Sherlock?

Você já declarou o fato de que os shows britânicos tendem a ter menos episódios do que seus colegas americanos (veja aqui para uma ótima explicação).

No entanto, existem algumas outras coisas a considerar ao discutir Sherlock. De um Digital Spy artigo:

"[The format is] very closely held," [PBS Executive] Eaton told Collider. "Steven [Moffat] crafts them, and Mark [Gatiss] writes some of them. It's a lot of work, and [Steven] also does Doctor Who and he worked on Tintin, so there couldn't be more than three."

Eaton argued that Sherlock co-creators Moffat and Gatiss use up all of their "creative juice" on the show.

"I think there will only ever be three at a time, if we're lucky," she said. "It's getting harder and harder to do another season, not just because Benedict and Martin [Freeman] are getting such high profiles, but Steven and Mark are busy and in demand."

Então parece que, além da excelente resposta que eu liguei para discutir as temporadas britânicas mais curtas, o fato de Moffat ter tantos outros programas para cuidar significa que eles estão em um cronograma muito apertado e não têm tempo para mais episódios.

I do think that sharpening the appetite and having shorter runs of more shows is a better way.

If you make a star of somebody, you have a chance of keeping them, if you’re not insisting that they work nine months of the year on your production.

Além das outras razões dadas aqui, limitando especificamente o tempo disponível pelo elenco e equipe do Sherlock Sherlock está longe de ser a única série a usá-lo. Parece ser particularmente popular em shows de detetive / mistério.

Na verdade, a série de John Hawkesworth Sherlock Holmes dos anos 80, com Jeremy Brett, voltou a esse formato para The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes (6ª temporada). Em tempos mais recentes, Case Histories, The Bletchly Circle, Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Foyles War, Endeavour, e The Casual Vacancy , foram todos apenas três ou quatro, 60 ou Episódios de 90 minutos. Os exemplos são uma legião desse tipo de formato de séries mais curtas na televisão do Reino Unido, tanto da BBC quanto dos canais comerciais.

Restrições de tempo e eu imagino que o Gatiss é mais um tipo de 'qualidade sobre a quantidade'.
