Na verdade KutuluMike está enganado quando diz que Lady Webber foi a acusadora e Sor Eustace era o réu.
Contexto
Houve dois conflitos principais:
- O ataque de Ser Bennis aos camponeses de Lady Webber.
- A queima de madeiras de Osgrey supostamente por homens de armas de Webber.
Houve também outro conflito, que basicamente iniciou os dois conflitos acima mencionados, mas foi marginalizado como resultado de eventos mais imediatos:
- Construção de uma barragem em Chequey Water pelos Webbers
A primeira disputa
Ser Duncan resolveu o primeiro problema assumindo a responsabilidade pelo ataque de Sor Bennis e infligindo a mesma lesão a si mesmo que Ser Bennis infligiu ao camponês de Lady Webber, estabelecendo assim a pontuação.The widow’s eyes went wide at the sight of naked steel. “What are you doing?” she said. “Have you lost yourwits ? There are a dozen crossbows trained on you.”
“You wanted blood for blood.” He laid the dagger against his cheek. “They told you wrong. It wasn’t Bennis cut that digger, it was me.” He pressed the edge of the steel into his face, slashed downward.
When he shook the blood off the blade, some spattered on her face.More freckles, he thought. “There, the Red Widow has her due. A cheek for a cheek.”
“You are quite mad.” The smoke had filled her eyes with tears. “If you were better born, I’d marry you.”

A segunda disputa
Depois disso, Duncan exigiu que Lady Rohanne entregasse os homens que queimaram a floresta de Sor Eustace. Lady Webber não tinha intenção de admitir que estava por trás da queima da floresta e, mesmo que alguém entre seus homens fizesse isso, ela não o entregaria. Em vez disso, ela exigiu que Sor Eustace retirasse sua acusação de que ela queimou sua floresta:
“Give me the men who burned the wood.”

Nesse ponto, Duncan deixou claro para ela que isso não aconteceria. Lady Webber, em seguida, optou por se defender em um julgamento por combate no caso Ser Eustace se recusou a emitir um pedido de desculpas a ela por sua acusação vil, tornando-a réu e Ser Eustace o acusador.
“In that case, I must assert my innocence before the eyes of gods and men. Tell Ser Eustace that I demand an apology . . . or a trial. The choice is his.” She wheeled her horse about to ride back to her men.

Consequências
Mais tarde, claro, sabemos que Duncan vence e Sor Lucas perdeu. As consequências do evento são citadas abaixo:
“Ser Eustace asked the boy to attend him at the wedding feast. There was no one else on his side. It would have been discourteous for him to refuse.”
“Wedding feast?” Dunk did not understand.
“You would not know, of course. Coldmoat and Standfast were reconciled after your battle. Lady Rohanne begged leave of old Ser Eustace to cross his land and visit Addam’s grave, and he granted her that right. She knelt before the blackberries and began to weep, and he was so moved that he went to comfort her. They spent the whole night talking of young Addam and my lady’s noble father.
Lord Wyman and Ser Eustace were fast friends, until the Blackfyre Rebellion. His lordship and my lady were wed this morning, by our good Septon Sefton. Eustace Osgrey is the lord of Coldmoat, and his chequy lion flies beside the Webber spider on every tower and wall.”

Então, como podemos ver, Sor Eustace e Lady Rohanne compartilharam um momento íntimo juntos, relembrando sobre os entes queridos que eles compartilharam e perderam, que eram o filho de Eustáquio, Addam e o pai de Lady Rohanne, Lorde Wyman.
Está implícito no fato de que eles escolheram se reconciliar, que Ser Eustace perdoou Lady Webber por queimar seus bosques, portanto desistindo do direito de puni-la com exatidão. Eles foram além da reconciliação, amarraram suas casas. Ao fazer isso, eles resolveram sua disputa original também, aquela sobre a represa.
Então, não foi um julgamento por batalha que não teve consequências. Foi um julgamento por batalha que terminou em reconciliação, o que é uma enorme consequência.
