Harry, rei de Expelliarmus, não é do tipo que mata ninguém se puder evitá-lo. Ele não mata. Ele acredita em fazer o menor dano possível. Quando Ron pergunta a ele o que fazer com Thorfinn Rowle e Antonin Dolohov, que eram ambos Comensais da Morte condenados por crimes graves, ele rejeita a ideia de matá-los.

“What are we going to do with them?’ Ron whispered to Harry through the dark; then, even more quietly, ‘Kill them? They’d kill us. They had a good go just now.’

Hermione shuddered and took a step backwards. Harry shook his head.

‘We just need to wipe their memories,’ said Harry. ‘It’s better like that, it’ll throw them off the scent. If we killed them, it’d be obvious we were here.’

‘You’re the boss,’ said Ron, sounding profoundly relieved.”

Quando Lupin sugere que ele use feitiços mais agressivos, ele rejeita desafiadoramente a ideia e ainda prefere usar feitiços que não causem danos permanentes.

“Harry, the time for Disarming is past! These people are trying to capture and kill you! At least Stun if you aren’t prepared to kill!’

‘We were hundreds of feet up! Stan’s not himself, and if I Stunned him and he’d fallen he’d have died the same as if I’d used Avada Kedavra!”

Mesmo em sua batalha final com o Lorde das Trevas, seu inimigo mais perigoso e mortal, ele usa Expelliarmus. A única razão pela qual ele até tentou usar Crucio foi porque ele estava chateado que Sirius morreu. Mesmo assim, ele não foi capaz de evocar raiva suficiente para lançar uma Maldição Cruciatus eficaz.
