Como Dumbledore descobriu a Caverna de Voldemort?

Sra. Cole no orfanato deixou escapar que havia uma caverna do mar perto de onde os órfãos foram levados em férias de verãoL:

He swore they’d just gone exploring, but something happened in there, I’m sure of it. And, well, there have been a lot of things, funny things ...’

She looked at Dumbledore again, and though her cheeks were flushed, her gaze was steady.

Dumbledore passou boa parte do Príncipe Mestiço saindo e procurando por Horcruxes. Sabendo que Tom Riddle havia usado uma caverna do mar para aterrorizar seus companheiros órfãos, deu-lhe uma pista para, pelo menos, começar a procurar por cavernas marítimas apropriadas. E finalmente ele encontrou o caminho certo:

‘Lumos,’ said Dumbledore, as he reached the boulder closest to the cliff face. A thousand flecks of golden light sparkled upon the dark surface of the water a few feet below where he crouched; the black wall of rock beside him was illuminated too.

‘You see?’ said Dumbledore quietly, holding his wand a little higher.

Harry saw a fissure in the cliff into which dark water was swirling.

É quando Dumbledore e Harry encontram a caverna do mar. Dumbledore também sente que a caverna tem uma magia conhecida e determina que Tom Riddle já esteve lá.

‘How did you know that was there?’ Harry asked in astonishment.

‘Magic always leaves traces,’ said Dumbledore, as the boat hit the bank with a gentle bump, ‘sometimes very distinctive traces. I taught Tom Riddle. I know his style.’

Dumbledore estava procurando por um bom tempo (veja minha terceira citação, onde ele diz isso diretamente); ele tinha pistas sobre sua localização geral de suas entrevistas originais no orfanato, mas não muitas especificidades.

De Metade Sangue Príncipe:

Dumbledore faz referência logo depois:

The little stories of the strangled rabbit and the young boy and girl he lured into a cave were most suggestive. … ‘I can make them hurt if I want to. …’ ”

Depois, mais tarde, ele indica que encontrou depois de muita pesquisa:

“Which Horcrux is it? Where is it?”
“I am not sure which it is — though I think we can rule out the snake — but I believe it to be hidden in a cave on the coast many miles from here, a cave I have been trying to locate for a very long time: the cave in which Tom Riddle once terrorized two children from his orphanage on their annual trip; you remember?”

Ele provavelmente o encontrou pesquisando onde as crianças estavam saindo e, em seguida, pesquisando a partir de locais que seriam extensões lógicas das viagens, além de se encaixar na descrição:

“They brought the kids from the orphanage here?” asked Harry, who could not imagine a less cozy spot for a day trip.
“Not here, precisely,” said Dumbledore. “There is a village of sorts about halfway along the cliffs behind us. I believe the orphans were taken there for a little sea air and a view of the waves.

Seus métodos de pesquisa nunca são mostrados diretamente "na câmera", mas vimos ele usar uma série de táticas para encontrar outras informações (como outras Horcruxes.) Mesmo com o orfanato incendiado, havia muitas fontes de dados ele poderia ter acessado, desde que ele sabia mais ou menos o que estava procurando - registros centralizados, memórias de outros que trabalhavam ou viviam lá, etc.

Descoberta de Dumbledore da caverna deveu-se a ele ouvir a história de Tom levando crianças para uma caverna. Dumbledore mostrou que ele tem uma excelente memória, então lembrar disso não é um problema. Então, quando procurar por Dumbledore do horrocrux provavelmente foi primeiro ao orfanato, descobriu que ele não estava mais lá e seguiu para o próximo melhor lugar, a caverna. Dumbledore também mostra que ele pode sentir a magia de algo que nenhum outro mago é mostrado fazer (outro então, Voldemort desde que ele montou a caverna) então uma vez que ele encontrou a caverna, era simples perceber que era de fato a caverna correta.

Apenas preste atenção quando Dumbledore visitar Tom no orfanato, você verá que há uma pequena foto que foi fixada na parede e na foto você vê o mar e a caverna (a mesma localização da horcrux).
