história na escala de tempo da floresta

Estou procurando o título de um conto de Ursula LeGuin sobre um cientista (?) Que recebe uma droga que diminui enormemente a escala de tempo de sua percepção, para que ele possa perceber que uma floresta alienígena (?) Está realmente se comportando como um ser sensível, reagindo aos eventos atuais, mas em uma escala de tempo enormemente lenta (do ponto de vista humano normal).

Pode estar em Os Doze Quartos do Vento, mas não me lembro do título (e ele não aparece na lista de títulos) e não tenho acesso a essa coleção no momento. Isto é não "A Palavra para Mundo é Floresta", nem "Direção da Estrada" (de a esta pergunta), nem "Mais vasto que os impérios e mais lento", os dois últimos analisando questões semelhantes de percepção / escala de tempo da planta.

Hunter and hunted. The strangling lianas, the deadly, beautiful orchid that was like a cancer eating a healthy trunk, the leprous, crawling fungi—they were the wolves and jackals of this leafy world.

Even among the trees, Farris saw, existence was a grim and never-ending struggle. Silk-cotton and bamboo and ficus trees—they too knew pain and fear and the dread of death.
