Todas as datas no mundo da HP remontam à festa do Dia da Morte de Nick Quase Sem Cabeça na Câmara Secreta . Afirmou-se que este era o seu 500º Dia da Morte. O bolo diz:

Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington
died 31st October, 1492

Então, é lógico que durante o segundo ano, Harry Potter tinha 12 anos, e que era o ano de 1992. Todas as datas podem ser calculadas a partir daquele momento.

Também deve ser notado que isso não é estritamente respeitado, especificamente, Dudley tem Playstation antes de sair, entre outras coisas.

Harry Potter nasceu em 31 de julho de 1980 e entrou em Hogwarts em 1991.

• O primeiro livro foi publicado em 1997
• Dudley tem um PlayStation no livro 4 (eles não foram lançados na Europa até 1995)

  Dudley’s diet isn’t going too well. My aunt found him smuggling doughnuts into his room yesterday. They told him they’d have to cut his pocket money if he keeps doing it, so he got really angry and chucked his PlayStation out of the window. That’s a sort of computer thing you can play games on.
