is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be
done. I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all
and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF
SPRING.
How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different?
Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.
I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never
forget. They had eight hours for this final season. I expect
these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between
them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are
needed, I’ll add them. And of course the butterfly effect will be at
work as well; those of you who follow this Not A Blog will know that
I’ve been talking about that since season one. There are characters
who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the
show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will
learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her
pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy,
Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters
both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to
meet. And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…
Book or show, which will be the “real” ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have?
How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet.

Por exemplo, como citado no artigo, ele queria terminar os livros depois do Casamento Vermelho com Arya e Jon saindo no Wall e Tyrion agindo como Jorah Mormont. Até onde chegamos a esse final?
Sem mencionar, seu aviso sobre o efeito Borboleta diz bastante. Na teoria do Caos, o efeito borboleta é essencialmente que pequenas mudanças no estado inicial de um sistema podem resultar em mudanças muito maiores em um estado posterior. Isso é algo consistente com o estilo de escrita do GRRM. Se você comparar o estilo do GRRM com o estilo do JKR, verá que o JKR é um arquiteto, ela sabe o que quer e constrói a história para esse fim. GRRM é jardineiro, planta algumas sementes, deixa que cresçam naturalmente. Se ele não gosta do crescimento, ele pode ameá-lo. Se ele ainda não gostar, ele corta tudo e recomeça. Ele pode ter tido uma idéia de como seria o jardim em sua forma final, mas isso não significa que ele se manterá nessa forma caso algo o acerte melhor.
Em outras palavras, é possível que isso tenha sido mais ou menos o final do 90% GRRM do 8 anos atrás. É necessariamente verdade hoje? Bem, sim. E não. E sim. E não. E sim. E não. E sim. E como o GRRM diz que seu final pode ser diferente, eu diria que ele não é obrigado por contrato a cumprir esse final.
In uma entrevista recente ele admitiu que a temporada final não era fiel ao que ele tinha em mente, pelo menos no que diz respeito à duração e às estradas não percorridas.

[final] series has been... not completely faithful. Otherwise, it
would have to run another five seasons."
Ele também falou sobre sua experiência Trabalhando com Hollywood, que pode ou não ser ocultada a crítica aos showrunners da HBO e do GoT:
“It can be… traumatic,” he admitted. “Because sometimes their
creative vision and your creative vision don't match, and you get
the famous creative differences thing – that leads to a lot of
conflict.” Speaking more generally of Hollywood adaptations, he
added “You get totally extraneous things like the studio or the
network weighing in, and they have some particular thing that has
nothing to do with story, but relates to ‘Well this character has a
very high Q Rating so let’s give him a lot more stuff to do.’”
