Why is Gollum so skinny?
He didn't eat much, or particularly well, which may have caused his extreme skinniness (especially relative to other hobbits). He never saw a dentist or brushed his teeth, so most of them fell out. He is centuries old and has a terrible diet, hence his baldness, perhaps.

When we see Gollum, he obviously portrays two distinct personalities (Smeagol and Gollum), where Smeagol is the nice hobbit-like character who seems to legitimately want to help Frodo and Sam on their adventure; and Gollum is the evil Ring-bearing creature who loves his 'precious.
