What does the sacred flame cantrip do?
Flame-like Radiance descends on a creature that you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 radiant damage. The target gains no benefit from cover for this saving throw.
Is Sacred Flame good 5e?
Sacred flame can be good to use at higher levels, especially on slow creatures with a low hp pool, or on already bloodied enemies. However, unless you are saving your spell slots for a later combat encounter, it probably isn't the best cantrip to use right off the bat. Is sacred flame AoE? Is Sacred Flame AoE? Sacred Flame does not have an Area of Effect. It is a single-target spell.

In D&D 5e, a spellcaster (we'll use cleric as an example) can cast a spell as a bonus action and one as an action on the same turn, but one must be a cantrip - for example, in the same turn, a cleric can cast healing word and sacred flame. Does sacred flame do half damage? Firebolt requires the caster to make a "spell attack" which is "1d20 + Spell attack modifier" (See Spellcasting feat) against the target's AC. Additionally, I want to mention that a saving throw doesn't always mean "half damage". See Sacred Flame, which deals no damage when the target succeeds on its saving throw.
Does Firebolt work underwater?
No. Magic does what it says. A lightning bolt or fireball do exactly what it says despite your thoughts of water changing them, because its magical fire & lightning, not mundane. With all critical hits and max damage, you will still need 2 rounds to kill the shadow. Firebolt has a higher success rate (65%) than the Sacred Flame (40%) in this scenario. Also, Firebolt can crit.
Is Thaumaturgy a bonus action?
Since thaumaturgy does not say anything about granting advantage (though it certainly can allow some sort of sound to occur behind an enemy), by the rules it does not. Does sacred flame automatically hit? Heal/non-offensive/status - Automatic hit on allies, relevant stat save for enemies. Aimed/targeted spells - roll d20, add spell proficiency bonus, compare to AC/WIS or INT save.
